BackGround History:

Julian Opie is a contemporary British artist known for his distinctive depictions of figures, portraits, landscapes and sculptures.

The Julian Style of Pop art

The highly stylized treatment Opie gives his subjects-whereby features are created by thick black outlines and filled in with solid areas of flat colour-is a blend of Pop Art and Minimalism. He uses a variety of techniques to create his artwork however for this portrait he mostly uses non-traditional digital modern methods such as using adobe illustrator to create the simplistic styling of the photographic image of his face and others. This made a spark out of interest of others since it was an original concept done by Julian Opie, though he was influenced by other artists while he practices his designs and uses references. He also reduces his portraits down to their essential features, using small black circles for eyes and a distinctive, bright colour for the face and background. For the tonal outline he uses thick bold strokes to represent the shape of the face and the rest of the body and he sometimes also adds textures to his hair.

Julian Opie’s Album Cover: Blur

The reason why I like this album cover by Julian Opie is because he used a simplistic method of digital drawing. I also liked the soft textures on the hairs that he applied as well.
