My Space Ship Animation

I started experimenting different type of space ships to model such as the Rick and Morty space cruiser, Yamato space ship, Yukikaze spaceship plane or just a simple UFO. I tried to experiment with these and since time is running out I then just picked the most simplest one I can do which is the UFO. So for this animation experiment, I made my own spaceship using blueprints based on a fictional model of the German WW2 Wonder Weapon UFO called "Hanebu II". The reason why I chose a UFO is because I didn't wanted to go out too ambitious on a experimentation since it will be just saved during on the final major project. How I found this UFO Spaceship was from a source through history of Germany's Secret Wonder Weapon in YouTube where I stumble across on a science fiction video about all the amazing things that Germany created and planned during World War 2.For some reason on Substance Painter for the UFO I could not texture it so then I just imported the texture images on Maya using Arnold AI Standard surface. I also made a time lapse on YouTube for my UFO editing just to give a glimpse of what I've done. Here are some of the progress of my UFO and the textures I used:

I then finally tested out the render on Maya using the sky dome light. It came out nicely though the annoying box was in the way and I don't know how to fix it. I also changed the windows instead of using holes so I just used a separate window with glass material and metal around it.

These are the textures that I used for the render:

Firstly I set up the blueprints on Maya to trace to make it like the actual thing.

After that, I began building my UFO. Now the simple shapes are starting to form. I also used the smooth tool though since that didn't work out I just then did smooth with sharp edges using the shift and right click key.

This was the part where I made my turrets. I used the Boolean tool to cut out the turrets holes and the windows.

This is the part where the gun was fitted, tough there were shading errors.

If the most complicated thing was to make I guess it was the landing gear, cause I have to measure the same width and length to fit inside the landing bay area for the landing gear. Moreover the texturing part of it was quite hard to in my opinion.

I then fixed my UFO with replacing the window with a separate mesh.

Before importing the city I then import my textures on the UFO spaceship and tested out the render. The conclusion of it is at the top cause I want a nice thumbnail for this slide.

After that I made a animation test for my space ship, so far its looking good. Though I forgot to rig the landing gear that I wanted to do however I ran out of time.

For the sketching part I first sketched the space ship concept, once that was finished I quickly sketched out the side of the space ship but in a bigger format. Finally I then made a short one page mood board for my spaceship landing animation. It was just a rough idea of what the final outcome going to be like.

I then added in a sky dome texturing with a skybox giving it an atmosphere.

Final conclusion. I added in the camera following the space ship while landing on the building. When rendering the animation it was ok, I couldn't bump it up for some unknown reasons cause my pc won't let me do it. And if I want it to transfer it to the mac then there would be some more problems. At least it shows the textures and the short animation which I liked. If I had more time, I would've fixed the issue and bump up the resolution. Plus adding the landing gear rig to make the landing gear go down and also some water VFX. Overall it was a nice small project, hopefully I can improve better on my FMP. I also uploaded the video on my YouTube channel.
